new-york-bad-makeupI have read a lot of negative comments from New York's haters (you know yourselves) and most centre around her weave. Well I had an email from a stylist and I grabbed the opportunity to talk to her on the phone. I wanted to clear the air; to ascertain whether these haters have a point or not.

Thanks for speaking to The Blogspot
I'm a fan, it's not a problem

First, what's your general impression of New York
She's loud, she's over-the-top; a true definition of a drama queen

That's cool, but do you like her or not?
I won't say I like her but I respect what she's been able to do for herself

Ok, fair enough but we are here to talk about her appearance. Not her looks; but her hair, makeup and style.
(interrupting and giggling) Theatrical!

I didn't ask the question...but now that you've said "theatrical"; are you saying her appearance is deliberate. Meant to shock?
Of course it is, who would want to look like that, if not only for shock-value.

(scratching my head) So in your opinion she has not once dressed and presented herself in a way you'd recommend?
Don't get me wrong, she wears cute clothes sometimes; but her hair-stylist and makeup-artist have got to go

(getting pissed) Have you ever done make-up for a television show?
Yes, of course!

What shows?
I'd rather not say.
(she told me off the record)

Ok...is there a difference in makeup for a show and just going to work or whatever?
Certainly. Without getting too technical...

(interrupting) there is something technical about makeup?
Makeup application is an art!...as I was saying you need to get the shading or contouring just right for the camera. You don't want your star looking greasy or pancake-like on the screen.
That said, there is just no way that New York needs to wear that heavy eye-shadow and those long eye-lash strips to look good on camera. New York's gotta face where less is more
new york-good makeup
No offense, but you sound like one of those envious women on the blog. Let me question you a bit. What is a face where more is better? Because you said she has a face where less is more.
Someone who doesn't have such pronounced features as New York has. New York has thick lips, large eyes, etc.

Ok. So you don't like her makeup. What's the problem with the eyelashes?
They're too long. They're better suited for an Opera diva who's searching for a theatrical appearance.

You had a problem with the eye-shadow as well?
It makes her look like a raccoon?

And you are a fan, right? (sounding skeptical)
Big fan! But I want to see my sista looking right, Not all wrong all the time!

I think those fake eye-lashes should be removed completely.
No she can use the fakes but she should use the single lashes.

What's that?
Lashes that can be applied one at a time. They don't look fake and they make your eyes pop.

Ok, well I maintain that's not a big deal. But let's get to the weave. What's the problem there; if any?
First of all, the cardinal rule of a weave is that it should look like it's growing out of your head. The texture should be natural to your appearance...New York's weave does not look natural, the tracks are visible and you can see the bumps where the tracks have been sewn in; especially at the top of her head...

(interrupting) Hold on for a second. Aren't you seeing these things because you're a professional?
Every black woman is a professional when it comes to weaves. Trust me, every black woman and a few others can spot a bad weave a mile off

Whatever...continue
This is minor, but it's a dead giveaway when your weave isn't versatile and cannot be styled differently. New York would have been better served if she had an inter-locking weave done. You don't see tracks or bumps with those.
Or she could have used netting as Beyonce does, for a more natural look.

Is there anything else you want to hate on?
No, no, no; I am not hating. I just think she's not looking the best she can. For the budget that show has she can do a lot better. The average woman does better than that.
new-york-weave
Ok, thanks for talking to The Blogspot; but may I ask you one or two more questions?
Yes.

Have you seen Quanda's picture?
Yes.

What do you think?
She's a cute girl

Who's your favorite on the show?
Tango.

Why?
I just think he's the most mature and sexiest of all the guys

What's your opinion on Whiteboy?
He's a fake; he was never there for New York and he's not good looking so I got nothing out of his being on the show.
(I couldn't enjoy this moment after all the hating)

What's your take on Real crying after being eliminated?
I thought that was fake too.

Ok, I've taken up more than the ten minutes you gave me. I'll call you again just to talk.
(Laughs) Ok, bye.
